I've frequently observed several games in WMH wherein the players have already deployed and it's only then that they remember to roll for scenario. And then, some just drop the scenario and play Assassins. Personally I prefer objectives and caster-killing than just plain flat caster-killing (even with a nice assassin caster like Sorscha). I guess some people just don't know what the SR3 missions are. On a long jeep ride home, I noticed something interesting when rolling for scnario being played.
Removing normal Assassins from the list, we get this:
- Mosh Pit
- Invasion
- Killing Fields
- Divide and Conquer
- No Man's Land
- Pendulum
Mosh Pit is indicated by the central point sumo ring, which also looks like "1" on a d6.
Invasion is indicated by two points, one in your deployment area and the other on the enemy's deployment area. The two pips on a "2" result on d6 resembles Invasion.
Killing Fields is indicated by three points in the center of the table, which clearly resembles "3" on a d6.
With Divide and Conquer, you need to be aware of the four quarters of the table; which can be associated with the four pips on "4" on a d6.
No Man's Land is 10 inches on the center line of the table. You can envision said objective by the pips, or take on the 5" on either side from the center marker (which would get you the NML 10" area).
Pendulum is easily seen on the "6" on d6, as you have to have more guys on his side - the three pips on one side of the "6" looks like it's a football blocking line against the other three pips (easily alikened to having your models trying to stop your opponent's models from crossing the center line).
However way you look at it, such simple comparisons help even without memorizing the short 6-item list (which somehow is remarkably hard to memorize as evidenced by many local games). Steam Roller formats have always been good guidelines on WMH games. And with the timed thing happening on SR4 (which a lot do not find comfortable playing), getting accustomed to good old SR3 is not a bad thing.
